Homeowners Nervous Over Appointing Tradesman

A recent survey has shown that a majority of homeowners feel apprehension over hiring tradesman to carry our repair or maintenance work on their homes. The survey found that 9 out of 10 persons approached experienced concerns over botched jobs and costly bills. Website plentific carried out the survey.

Over half of the UK Homeowners surveyed were anxious over finding a professional they could depend on to carry out the works in a prompt and thorough manor. 50% of those surveyed we’re also fearful that jobs would not be completed on time.

It can be stressful arranging repairs works to your property either as a result of a claim or for the general upkeep of the property. As the survey showed concerns about costs and also the time it takes for the job to be completed can cause trepidation for you as the property owner.

We would recommend that any property owner who requires works to be carried out to their property that when you have negotiated a satisfactory estimate you look to obtain a suitable timeframe from the tradesman for how long the job will take, prior to work commencing. Also at this point you should request to see the tradesman’s insurance policy.

Any local tradesman’s worth their salt should have a suitable insurance policy in place for their business, and through seeing their proof of insurance, it will provide you with the peace of mind that adequate cover is in place and should an accident occur during the repairs being carried, a claim can be made under their insurance policy.

Should the repairs be required as the result of a claim, you may want to approach your broker to see if they can recommend a local tradesman to you to quote for the repairs at the stage the claim is first reported. Your broker may be able to recommend a reputable and experienced local tradesman to provide you with an estimate for the required repairs.

Along with offering residential and property owners insurance, B&M Insurance has over twenty five years in public and employers liability. We are ideally placed to provide local tradesmen with great value bespoke rates fitted their specific trades and needs.

If you’re a local tradesman with a liability policy due for renewal or alternatively you need insurance in place for a new business start up contact our office to obtain a competitive rate.
